Studies have found that adolescent sugar intake is related to the probability of Colorectal Cancer

Cambridge, MA (Periodical News) Modern people consume too much sugary drinks such as fruit juices and sodas, and the sugar eating habits are thought to be one of the reasons for the rising incidence of Colorectal cancer. According to the latest global cancer data for 2020 released by the World Health Organization (WHO), the age of Colorectal cancer patients is gradually getting younger. Related studies have also shown that excessive sugar intake during adolescence can lead to an increased risk of colorectal cancer.
Colorectal cancer has become the third most common cancer in the world. Past studies have shown that excessive intake of sugar can cause insulin resistance, which in turn leads to obesity and diabetes, as well as to the occurrence of Colorectal cancer. Recently, “Gastroenterology” published a study in which researchers found that a large amount of sugar in adolescence can significantly increase the risk of Colorectal cancer.
The researchers investigated and analyzed 33,106 female participants, and counted the sugar intake of the participants during adolescence (13 to 18 years old). The statistical data includes the types and consumption of foods such as fruit juices and artificial sweetened beverages. Participants are regularly asked about their health checkups and diagnosis results.
The results showed that 12.6% and 4.8% of the participants consumed at least one and two sweet drinks per day during adolescence. These sweets accounted for an average of 2.6% of daily calories, which was significantly higher than that of adult participants. Studies have also found that people who love sugary drinks prefer to eat meat and consume very little fruit and vegetables.
The number of people suffering from obesity in the world has been on the rise, and beverages made from corn syrup are also causing chronic diseases worldwide. During this time, the incidence of Colorectal cancer has also increased, and the age group of onset has also declined. On the whole, every 5% increase in fructose intake during puberty will increase the risk of cancer by 30%.
Past studies have pointed out that diabetes is also associated with Colorectal cancer. Therefore, while drugs control blood sugar, it is also necessary to avoid drinking these high-fructose corn syrup beverages and foods instead of relying on drugs to control blood sugar. For high-risk groups, sugar-sweetened beverages will increase their body’s metabolic burden. Therefore, whether in terms of weight loss or physical health, we should reduce sugar intake as much as possible within a reasonable range.
