Gibraltar will allow walking without a mask and will open bars and restaurants until two in the morning. Thus the curfew will end in the evening from tomorrow Thursday to Friday. The Government explains that it can relax the restrictions due to the low rates of active cases of Covid-19.
The Government of Gibraltar has announced this Wednesday a relaxation of the restrictions to face Covid , given the decrease in cases that are registered in the colony, so it will allow walking without a mask through its main street and its surroundings starting next Sunday.
In a press release the Government of Gibraltar explains that it can relax the social restrictions imposed in view of the low rates of active cases of Covid-19.
Gibraltar, where the vaccination rate has been very agile , has no active cases of Covid-19 at St Bernard Hospital or in residential services for the elderly. And this Wednesday in the colony no new infection has been registered.
Bars until 2 a.m., eliminates curfew …
Gibraltar’s chief minister, Fabian Picardo, already announced last Monday in Parliament that the current low incidence of covid in the colony is “a demonstration of the effectiveness of its confinement and of the vaccination program.”
For this reason, the British colony is preparing to take measures for a return to normality. Thus the curfew will end in the evening from tomorrow Thursday to Friday. From that night the bars and restaurants may open until two in the morning.
The consumption of alcohol in public places , that is to say outside licensed spaces, will continue to be prohibited at night, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m.
Gibraltar will also relax the requirements for the use of masks. Thus, from 23:59 next Saturday it will no longer be mandatory to use them in the exterior spaces of Calle Real (Main Street) and its surroundings, although it will continue to be necessary to carry them in closed public spaces, shops and public transport.
The Minister of Civil Contingencies, Samantha Sacramento, has stated that these relaxation of the restrictions are possible due to “the success” of the vaccination program in the colony and the follow-up of the norms by the community, which makes “currently the number of positive cases is extremely low. ”
